There is also a wide selection of horses to chose from. Just about every breed of equine is available for adoption. Many equine athletes are ready and waiting to begin second careers. Retired thoroughbred race horses have successfully retrained as show horses. Standardbred harness-racing horses have been retrained and shown successfully in every discipline from dressage to team penning. Retired show horses often have second careers as family horses, and they make excellent companions for novice adults and children. Another advantage to adopting a horse from a rescue facility is that the horse can be returned to the facility if the relationship doesn’t work out.
